Invest India was conceptualised in 1990 as an independent agency to assist India's financial markets in their evolution towards maturity and sophistication by facilitating the exchange of information and ideas, and developing educational programs for skills and knowledge enhancement. Today, Invest India is India's leading company in content development in financial markets and its delivery through conferences, seminars, workshops and courses. 

Invest India is funded through attendance fees and sponsorships. Invest India has already conducted 17 international level conferences, 12 workshops, 13 direct contact retail investor awareness projects, 17 retail intermediary training programs and over 150 education seminars for individual investors and retail intermediaries in various States in India. Invest India has published 6 books on Indian finance, 3 investor behaviour studies and several information brochures for individual investors. Invest India projects have attracted, in aggregate, over 80,000 participants.

Invest India activities specifically include:

1. Consulting and Development Assignments

• Project OASIS (Old Age Social and Income Security): The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India commissioned Project OASIS in 1998 with the mandate of devising a pension system for India. The Government appointed Invest India as consultant and co-ordinator for the Project. This Project is the first comprehensive examination of policy questions connected with old age income security in India.

• Invest India has also consulted the USAID FIRE (Financial Institutions Reform and Expansion) Project on several research, training and conference projects. 

• Invest India is presently initiating a national level study on retail distribution of financial products and services. 

2. Conferences

Invest India has conducted a number of conferences and technical consultations on various aspects of India's financial markets including corporate restructuring, mergers and acquisitions; securities markets; distribution of financial products; financial technology; corporate and project finance; provident and pension funds, commodity markets; risk management; swaps and derivatives; funds management; fixed income; currency; and legal infrastructure. 

Invest India conferences and consultations have facilitated direct interaction between experts from CME, Colombo Stock Exchange, IFC, NASD, NASDAQ, NYSE, OECD, PBOC, SIMEX, US Department of Commerce, US Department of Labour, USAID, World Bank, etc. and their Indian counterparts at the PMO, Ministry of Finance, SEBI, RBI, IRDA, DCA, Ministry of Communications, Forward Markets Commission, etc.

3. Courses and Workshops

Invest India has conducted a number of training programs and workshops on various subjects including debt markets, credit risk, derivatives, market risk, operations risk, mergers and acquisitions, fixed income analytics, etc. Senior faculty from NYU Stern School, Harvard, KPMG, Arthur Andersen, PWC, Citibank, RBI, Merrill Lynch, SBI, HSBC, Reliance, NSE, and ICICI conducted these workshops and courses.

4. Topical Events

Invest India hosts lectures and seminars that examine topical issues. Renowned experts including Leo Melamed (Chicago Mercantile Exchange) Dr. John Williamson (World Bank), Dr. Kirit Parikh (IGIDR), Dr. Rakesh Mohan (NCAER), and Hany Assaad (International Finance Corporation) have delivered lectures at Invest India programs.

5. Publishing

Five books have been published under the Invest India/Tata McGraw-Hill Series covering the debt market, derivatives, funds management and stock markets. 

6. Educating Individual Investors and Retail Intermediaries

Invest India is the only agency in India that has carried out mass, direct contact investor education programs in multiple cities that were attended by over 70000 individual investors and retail intermediaries.
